The Throat Chakra represents truth, self-expression, listening, and communication. It is located at the base of the throat where each of your collar bones meets. In Sanskrit, Vishuddha is the name used for the fifth chakra. Vishuddha means purification.

The Fifth chakra is responsible for relaying our inner world and truth to those around us. It is important for this chakra to be heard and used without shame and fear. If you have a balanced fifth chakra, you will be connected to your inner world and have no problems expressing it.

You can wear jewelry adorned with blue crystals right against the Throat Chakra, take time to look up at the blue sky, or even eat blue foods to benefit from the tranquil and purifying effects of the color blue.

Throat Chakra’s Crystal

Blue Kyanite is used to help align all chakras but works especially well for activating the Throat Chakra and the Third Eye Chakra. It can also evoke loyalty, honesty, and serenity.

Opening the Throat Chakra

The Fifth Chakra, also known as the Vishuddha, allows us to communicate internally and externally without fear, shame, or judgment. It also gives us the wisdom to know when to let others be heard and understood.

The Sanskrit word Vishuddha roughly translates to ‘purest form.’ This is relevant to the Throat Chakra because when it is open and clear channeling life force energy, we communicate with honesty and truth in its purest form.

Often we are made to feel shameful, annoying, or obnoxious when we express ourselves. If you find yourself afraid to speak your mind or that you aren’t being heard by those around you then your Throat Chakra probably suffers as a result.

To work with and open up Fifth Chakra, you should journal the thoughts and emotions you feel you can not express. By writing them down, you give them validity because you are acknowledging them. This will also help you express them to others in a confident way when the time comes.

On the other side of this chakra, some people can have issues with listening. If you are one of these people, you may talk over others or frequently have others tell you that you don’t listen to them. To work with your Throat Chakra try listening to others more, they matter as well.

Meditation for Balancing the Throat Chakra

To meditate for the Fifth Chakra, you can use blue Kyanite, visualization, the mantra Ham, or affirmations while you breathe in deeply. Allow your breath to feel your lungs while you listen to the world around you or your own mantra. You can do this anywhere before a meeting, performance, important conversation, or just when you feel like it.
